Knead the change.

It all began with a nostalgic memory.

Poom-Ah-Si

Poom is short for ‘poom-ah-sh’, a culture of sharing labor, talents, and resources with neighbors in Korea. Growing up, our first stop for grocery shopping was to our neighbors’ front doors in search of food for sharing. This daily tradition fostered appreciation for the community and kept our neighborhood close. What if we could bring that sense of community to our own neighborhoods?

Sharing bread from distressed homes

Born out of Pandemic

This Pandemic has alerted us to re-evalute what is really 'essential' in our lives. It was a wake up call for our humanity to understand the value of human lives and community. In the midst of tragedy, however, something positive happened in our quarantined homes; people everywhere began to bake things and share again.

Homebakers were leaving freshly baked goods on neighbors’ porches, hanging them on front doors with handwritten notes, and new baking communities were forming to deliver sweets to shelters and hospitals in our neighborhoods.

We saw hope, and we knew, this can’t end here.

I shared baked goods during the pandemic with my neighbors and it changed the way I live my life. I want to continue this culture and encourage others to do the same.
