Keeping the Legacy Alive: The Story behind Theresa’s Treasures
Can you tell us about the story behind the creation of Theresa's Treasures?
Absolutely! Theresa's Treasures is a small woman-owned baking business that I started during the pandemic. As a school teacher, I was forced to stay home when the pandemic hit and decided to create the pantry I had always wanted. In doing so, I came across a recipe book that belonged to my mom who passed away in 2013. I started making some recipes and wanted to share them with others. I did a few barters with other women in small businesses and eventually made my dream of owning my own business come true.
Can you tell us more about the inspiration behind the recipes you use?
The recipe book that belonged to my mom was a huge inspiration for me. It was a way for me to connect with her and keep her memory alive. I wanted to share these recipes with others and make them a part of my business.
What are some of the challenges you face as a small business owner?
Being a small business owner comes with its own set of challenges. It can be difficult to get my product out there and it can also be challenging to manage the financials. Juggling my career as a school teacher with my passion for baking is also a challenge, but it's all worth it in the end.
What are your long-term goals for Theresa's Treasures?
My long-term goal for Theresa's Treasures is to open a small shop consisting of an independent bookstore and cafe. I want to create a space where people can come and enjoy a good book, a cup of coffee and a slice of homemade cake. It will be a cozy and comfortable place where people can relax and enjoy themselves.
How you balance your day job and your business?
A: It's definitely a challenge to balance my day job and my business, but I've learned to make it work. I make sure to set aside dedicated time for both and prioritize my tasks. I also make sure to take care of myself, so that I have the energy and focus to do both.
